Counseling
Training the saints to certification in biblical counselingCounseling FAQ’s
What is biblical counseling?
Biblical counseling involves understanding the problems of living in a fallen world – and their solutions – from a biblical perspective. The Bible is used both to define the problems and to develop methods for solving these problems. The counselors at Rod & Staff Ministries have received formal training in biblical counseling. They are not licensed psychologists, but rather pastoral counselors. They are either certified or in training to be certified by the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, a national organization devoted to ensuring the quality of counseling offered by its members.
Is it confidential?
The Bible clearly states that gossip is wrong. Therefore, the counselors at Rod & Staff Ministries will not release information about particular counselees except in the few situations required by the Bible or the laws of our state. Those situations are: 1) when someone is in danger of being harmed, 2) when a child is physically or sexually abused, 3) when someone persistently refuses to stop a sinful pattern, and it is necessary to seek assistance from his/her church to encourage proper change (see Matthew 18:15-20 and Romans 13:1-7), or 4) when a pastor/elder is inquiring about his sheep.
Where are you located?
Almost all of our counseling is done virtually, but our offices are located at 5500 South Gray Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237
IMPORTANT NOTE: You may find it helpful to look up the location of Gray Road Baptist Church. We are in the same building as Gray Road Baptist Church, on the east side of the building. Please enter through Door 1. If the doors are locked, please ring the doorbell to the right of the door.
What do I bring?
Have your Bible, a notebook, and something with which to write. **We do not have facilities for childcare. Regrettably, if you come with your children, we may have to reschedule your appointment for a later date.**
How do I submit my paperwork?
You may submit your paperwork via our online form or request a PDF or hard copy by emailing us at office@rodandstaffministries.org.
Why are there so many questions?
Our counselors spend a lot of time praying and preparing for your session before they even meet with you the first time. The more information they have up front, the better they are able to prepare for your first session and bring materials that would be beneficial to deal with your situation (see Proverbs 18:13).
How do I pay for sessions and administrative fees?
If you complete our online form, your fees will be collected at that time. If you fill out our electronic PDF or the hard copy forms, you may mail it to us (please make checks payable to Rod and Staff Ministries) or submit your payment online. Please remember, counseling cannot proceed until both the sessions fee and administrative fee are paid in full.
