¹  Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!
 ² Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
 ³ who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!
 ⁴ You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. (Ps. 119:1-4 ESV)

What wonderful words we find in Psalm 119. Those whose way is blameless, that is, those who walk in the law of the LORD are blessed.  Those who keep his testimonies and seek him with their whole heart are blessed.  They have the pleased eye of the LORD upon them. His favor is set on them for their good.

But how does one keep his way blameless? He must know and obey what the LORD has commanded, and he has commanded that his precepts be kept diligently. In order for one to keep God’s precepts he must know God’s precepts.  In order to know God’s precepts, he must read God’s Word, sit under the teaching of God’s Word, and read good books that help him rightly understand and apply God’s Word.  In order to do no wrong and walk in God’s ways one must seek first to know God and then what he commands.

This pursuit of knowing God and what he commands is not a half-hearted, part-time, when I feel like it, as time permits, type of pursuit but rather one that involves the entirety of one’s being, “…who seek him with their whole heart.” It is an all-in, full-time, whether I feel like it or not, make time type of pursuit. It is like searching for great treasure.  Time, expense, and energy are of no concern because of what, rather who, is being pursued.

What will be the result of this pursuit?

⁵ Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
⁶ Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
 ⁷ I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
⁸ I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! (Ps. 119:5-8 ESV)

The desire is that one who seeks God and seeks to know and obey his commands will be steadfast in keeping his precepts and that he would not be put to shame because his eyes have been fixed on what pleases God.

Are your eyes fixed on all that God has commanded?
