Why take the ACBC Exam Prep course?

Mar 3, 2022

This question is a good one to consider for anyone who has completed Semester One and Semester Two. You have completed the class work. You have read the books and written the reviews. You have completed the observations and secured the recommendations. Now what?

Well, it is time to begin bringing all of the training together.

In order to help this process, ACBC requires that you complete a Theology Exam and a Counseling Exam. Rod and Staff’s Semester Three is designed to help you with those exams. In our Semester Three class each student will be assigned a number of questions from each exam to answer. We ask that each student prepare an answer for the questions they are assigned and bring that answer to the class. On the assigned day, the students will present the answer they have prepared. All those participating in the class will have the opportunity ask questions about the answer and the instructor will provide feedback. Every exam question will be covered in this format.

You may be wondering why bother? I can just answer the questions on my own.

Absolutely. Once all the course work is completed you can begin your exams. What the Exam Prep Class offers you is guidance on what is expected for each question. Every student will leave the class with an outline for each question and an idea of what a passing answer requires. The feedback from instructors offers encouragement that you are on the right track or gentle correction where needed. The interaction with other students and the conversations had regarding the questions helps solidify your understanding of key counseling principles and key biblical texts. Many who have taken our class have commented that the Exam Prep class helped them see things more clearly. As each student presents an answer you get to hear how they understand the question and how they process answering it. Hearing how others approach the answer can bring clarity to your own understanding and challenge you to think about the question from a different perspective.

Simply put, taking the Exam Prep class will give you a head start in completing the exams and leave you well prepared to do well.

Our in-person course (recommended for local students) starts April 16 and runs for five Saturdays in the mornings.
