For Your Joy!
Beloved,
Have you considered how much God is interested in your joy? Did you realize that He wants you maximally joyful? God is for your good. Indeed, God commands that you seek as much treasure as possible: “…lay up for yourselves treasures” (Matt 6:20). This is a command. You are being commanded to “store up” as much treasure as possible.
I trust you know where this blog is going…
Your treasure…is NOT to be found here on earth. The verse continues: “…in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal” (Matt 6:20).
IN HEAVEN! You are commanded to acquire as much heavenly treasure as possible. The trouble with you and me is that we seek as much earthly treasure as possible instead.
If life is hard, if you are anxious a lot, if you worry all the time, if you stew or blow in anger, if you are depressed…it is very likely a symptom of a storage problem. If any of these descriptors are accurate of you…it is probably true that you are seeking your treasure here–in earthly things, even good things…but things nonetheless (gifts over the Gift-giver).
When you are UPSET (however defined), ask your soul one question, “Am I wanting Jesus (THE Treasure) or one of His good gifts?”
My prayer…is that you seek The Treasure…a greater conformity to and capacity to enjoy Jesus.
10,000 Blessings in The Wonderful Counselor,
Jim
